Just watched part 1 of a 2 part BBC programme filmed for Comic Relief called 'Rich, Famous & In The Slums'. The programme features 4 UK celebrities including Angela Rippon (who I played tennis with once) living for a week in the one of the biggest slums in the world, in Kibera, Kenya. It was a fantastic programme and gave a brief yet incredibly powerful glimpse into the lives of others who live with so little. Whilst watching the programme and in the short time since, I have felt emotions that I am not used to and which have surprised me. Seeing so vividly how hard life is for the dwellers of Kibera opened a door, for however brief a moment, to a very fresh perspective on my own immensely privileged existence. I hope that this door will be opened again and again during our time in Bangladesh.
